Accessibility Statement

Michigan Legal Publishing Ltd. is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply relevant accessibility standards.

Conformance Status

We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities. We audit our website against them and address what we find.

This statement was last reviewed on 19 August 2026, when we measured the contrast of every colour pair in use, checked the structure and forms of every public page type, and corrected what did not pass. The specifics below describe what we actually verified rather than what we intend.

Measures Taken

  • Semantic HTML: We use proper heading hierarchy with no skipped levels, landmark elements (nav, main, footer, aside), and ARIA attributes (aria-label, aria-current, aria-live) throughout our website. Each page has exactly one top-level heading.
  • Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements are reachable by keyboard. A “Skip to main content” link is the first thing you reach on every page and becomes visible when focused. Tab order follows the reading order.
  • Focus Indicators: A visible 2px outline in our primary blue appears on every interactive element when reached by keyboard, with a 2px offset so it never overlaps the control. Its contrast against the page is 5.2:1, above the 3:1 minimum. For visitors who ask their system for more contrast, the outline thickens to 3px.
  • Color Contrast: We measure contrast rather than estimate it. Body text (#334155 on white) is 10.3:1; headings are 14.6:1; links and navigation are 5.2:1; footer text is 11.9:1. Text meets or exceeds the WCAG AA minimum of 4.5:1, and the borders of form fields and buttons meet the 3:1 minimum for interface components.
  • Alt Text: All meaningful images, including book covers, include descriptive alternative text. Decorative images and icons are hidden from screen readers.
  • Responsive Design: Our website is responsive across devices and screen sizes. Touch targets in the mobile navigation are at least 44×44 pixels. The base font size is 17px, and zooming is never disabled.
  • Form Accessibility: Every field has a visible label that is programmatically associated with it. Required fields are marked with an asterisk, explained in text above the form, and also announced as required to assistive technology. Error messages appear in a live region that is present before the message arrives, so it is announced rather than missed.
  • Motion Preferences: We respect the prefers-reduced-motion setting and reduce animations and transitions for visitors who ask for it.
  • Contrast Preferences: We respect the prefers-contrast setting, thickening borders and focus outlines and darkening lighter greys.
  • External Links: Links that open in a new tab include screen-reader-only “(opens in new tab)” text. Sponsored and retailer links carry the appropriate rel attributes.

Known Limitations

We would rather tell you what we have not verified than imply we have covered everything.

  • We have not tested with real screen readers. Our checks are of the markup, the color values and the page structure. We have not sat down with NVDA, JAWS or VoiceOver, so we cannot promise how any particular assistive technology behaves on our pages.
  • Older book descriptions imported from our previous publishing system may not be optimally formatted.
  • Superseded editions of a book remain available at their original web addresses for reference. Those pages are older and receive less attention than current editions.
  • Some third-party content — Amazon and Barnes & Noble pages we link to, and the payment pages our checkout hands you to — is outside our control.

Feedback

We welcome your feedback on the accessibility of our website, and we would particularly like to hear from you if something here does not match your experience. If you encounter a barrier, please contact us and tell us what happened, what you were using, and what you expected. We will respond within five business days.
