Accessibility Statement
Michigan Legal Publishing Ltd. is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We continually improve the user experience for everyone and apply relevant accessibility standards.
Conformance Status
We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with disabilities. We regularly audit our website for accessibility issues and address them promptly.
Measures Taken
- Semantic HTML: We use proper heading hierarchy (h1 through h3), landmark elements (nav, main, footer, aside), and ARIA attributes (aria-label, aria-current, aria-live) throughout our website.
- Keyboard Navigation: All interactive elements are accessible via keyboard. A “Skip to main content” link is provided on every page, and tab order follows a logical reading sequence.
- Focus Indicators: Visible 2px focus outlines are displayed on all interactive elements for keyboard users, with a 2px offset to avoid overlapping content.
- Alt Text: All meaningful images, including book covers, include descriptive alternative text. Decorative images and icons use empty alt attributes or aria-hidden.
- Color Contrast: All text and interactive elements meet or exceed the WCAG 2.1 AA minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 against their backgrounds. Our body text (#334155 on white) achieves approximately 9:1, and navigation links use white text on our primary blue for maximum legibility.
- Responsive Design: Our website is fully responsive across all devices and screen sizes. Touch targets on mobile meet the recommended 44x44 pixel minimum. We use a 17px base font size for comfortable reading.
- Form Accessibility: All form inputs have visible associated labels, required fields are indicated with both required and aria-required attributes, and error messages appear in ARIA live regions.
- Motion Preferences: We respect the prefers-reduced-motion media query and disable animations for users who prefer reduced motion.
- External Links: Links that open in a new tab include screen-reader-only “(opens in new tab)” text. Sponsored links include appropriate rel attributes.
Known Limitations
While we strive for full accessibility, some content may have limitations:
- Older book descriptions imported from our previous system may not be optimally formatted.
- Some third-party content (Amazon, Barnes & Noble links) is outside our direct control.
